The MINI Cooper Oxford Edition: Celebrating 25 Years at the Traditional Home of the Brand
A Quarter-Century of Modern Production at Plant Oxford
No city in the world embodies the MINI brand quite like Oxford, UK. The classic Mini was first built here in 1959, and since 2001, the BMW Group has been producing the modern MINI on the exact same historic site. With the newly introduced MINI Cooper Oxford Edition 3-door, the brand celebrates its deep British roots and a quarter of a century of modern production by incorporating the iconic Union Jack into a range of exclusive design details.
From its very beginnings, MINI has proved that big character can come in small packages. Born from the creative vision of Sir Alec Issigonis, the classic Mini was surprisingly spacious, unmistakable in design, and perfectly at home on city streets. Today, the BMW Group successfully balances this illustrious heritage with contemporary innovation, proving that Plant Oxford is not merely a production site, but the true heart and continuation of the brand’s identity.
Production Flexibility and Iconic Design Tributes
Personalisation has always been a core part of MINI’s DNA, and the BMW Group leverages this by regularly releasing unique special editions worldwide. Recent editions built across the production network—such as the MINI 60 Years Edition, the MINI Seven Edition, the MINI 1965 Victory Edition, and the MINI Paul Smith Edition—continue this tradition. They showcase the immense flexibility of the Plant structures, which can seamlessly integrate highly customised design concepts into high-volume series production.
The new MINI Cooper Oxford Edition wears its heritage proudly on its roof with a contemporary interpretation of the Union Jack sitting on a white contrast roof. A central red and white stripe runs along the entirety of the car, visually tying the design together. Straight from the Plant Oxford assembly lines, the edition is available in Chili Red, Indigo Sunset Blue, and Blazing Blue, complemented by white mirror caps and 18-inch Slide Spoke 2-tone wheels with custom wheel hubs and valve caps.
Plant Craftsmanship and the Oxford Lifestyle Capsule
Look closer inside, and you will spot the precise details crafted by the team that make this anniversary edition special. The British theme continues with a textured printed flag on the 6 o’clock steering wheel element and unique door sills that celebrate 25 years of modern MINI every time a customer enters the vehicle. Furthermore, the floor mats feature a circular Union Jack on the driver’s side and a circular chequered flag element on the passenger side as a subtle nod to MINI’s racing heritage.
Style does not stop at the Plant gates: to match the vehicle launch, MINI has introduced the “Oxford Capsule” lifestyle collection, bringing the signature style of the production hub into everyday essentials. The collection includes a MINI Traveller Bag, unisex T-shirts, a special cap, stickers, and the iconic MINI Umbrella Walking Stick. The textiles are finished in dark blue to mirror the optional Indigo Sunset Blue vehicle paintwork, ensuring this tribute to 25 years of modern production extends far beyond the assembly line.
