Start of Production of the New BMW 1 Series at BMW Group Plant Leipzig
The premiere of the new BMW 1 Series marks the start of another chapter in the brand’s almost 20-year success story in the compact segment.
Leipzig. The BMW Group Plant Leipzig started the production of the BMW 1 Series three-door vehicle in 2007. Since then, more than 1.3 million BMW 1 Series in various model variants have been built in the Plant Leipzig. The BMW Group Plant delivered almost 443,000 vehicles of the third-generation BMW 1 Series by the end of June 2024. Plant director Petra Peterhänsel is convinced that the new BMW 1 Series will continue to make a decisive contribution to consistently high capacity utilisation at the plant.
Plant expansion for higher production volume
With the systematic expansion of the plant since 2018, the BMW Group Plant Leipzig can now build up to 350,000 units per year – 100,000 units more than before. The Plant Leipzig currently produces four models, three propulsion systems and two brands – all on one production line.
Dynamic design and new drive portfolio
The new BMW 1 Series sharpens its profile as a sporty vehicle in the competitive environment with its dynamic design presence, a completely renewed drive portfolio, and extensively enhanced chassis technology. With a strikingly flat front end that is significantly lower to the road than its predecessor, it signals its character, which is geared towards sporty driving pleasure. The distinct rear apron with vertical reflectors, two-part rear lights, and a black diffuser-style insert emphasise the powerful appearance.
The BMW Group launches the new BMW 1 Series on 5 October. Germany and Europe – especially the UK and Italy – have been among the strongest sales markets to date.
