BMW iFACTORY: The master plan for the future

Through the BMW iFACTORY concept, the BMW Group is redefining the future operational direction of its plants. The aim is to set new standards in climate protection and competitiveness with flexible, efficient, sustainable and digital production technologies. The BMW Group is focusing specifically on three key areas: LEAN. GREEN. DIGITAL. They summarise the strategic goal of a global production network.

LEAN stands for efficient, precise and highly flexible production, for example, the manufacturing of different types of vehicle models on a single line.

GREEN rethinks our existing resource-conserving and circular processes: moving away from the concept of “take, make, waste” and towards the principle of circularity. For example, the BMW Group is working to keep the resources for an automobile in the cycle. By GREEN, the BMW Group means the convergence of technology, ingenuity and entrepreneurship. The BMW Group does not stand still, but develops “green” solutions that show us the way to the future.

The DIGITAL pillar stands for a new dimension in data transparency. Through the targeted application of cutting-edge innovations from the fields of virtualization, artificial intelligence and data science, the BMW Group is forging new ways of working in all aspects of automotive production.
