Leipzig Plant Tour
Experience pioneering innovations and modern architecture – united at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig.
The BMW Group Plant Leipzig is one of the most innovative automotive factories in the world. The central building is also unique: it was designed by Zaha Hadid – one of the most famous architects of modernism. Series production began at the Leipzig plant in March 2005. At the BMW site in Leipzig, over 8,000 employees work (of which around 5,800 are BMW employees). Up to 1,500 vehicles roll off the assembly line every day.
iFACTORY EXPERIENCE at BMW Group Plant Leipzig
In around 90 minutes, you will gain exciting insights into the body shop and the assembly hall. 4 models, 3 drive variants, and 2 brands: you will experience the highly flexible production of the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and the MINI Countryman on the same production line. The tour starts in the body shop, where around 1,400 robots operate. One by one, they assemble the bodyshells, the basic structure of a BMW or MINI, from several hundred individual parts. The tour continues via the architecturally unusual central building to the assembly hall, where the cars slowly take shape.
The Basic Tour is designed for everyone interested and is ideal for tourist excursions.
The Extended Tour takes you on a 120-minute immersion into the production of the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and the MINI Countryman. See for yourself how 2 brands, 4 models, and 3 drive variants are produced on the same production line at the same time. You will not only gain an insight into the body shop and the assembly halls, but also experience live how vehicle parts for BMW and MINI are produced from huge sheet metal blanks in the press shop. You will also gain a brief insight into the paint shop and learn what role artificial intelligence plays in the painting process. Be there and discover how the basic framework of a BMW or MINI is turned into a fully-fledged vehicle. The BMW Group plant in Leipzig is not only one of the most modern and innovative automobile factories in the world, it is also an architectural masterpiece.
The tour is designed for technology enthusiasts who want to experience the highly flexible production of BMW and MINI in its entirety.
The School Tour is designed for students aged 14 and older. In 90 minutes, the contents of the Basic Tour are conveyed in an age-appropriate way. The logistics areas and the assembly hall are shown.
